ACTIVATION Christchurch Hui. 23rd Oct 2024. Program and presentations.
These papers are from a research hui to celebrate the end of the ACTIVATION (Activating Change through InterVentions for Active Travel in our Neighbourhoods) Christchurch project.
Between 2020 and 2024 we investigated changes in travel practices associated with having access to shared transport in two communities: Ōtautahi Community Housing Trust’s (OCHT) Brougham St development, and the Arvida Park Lane Retirement community. The project also included work on Māori design frameworks, Māori housing and transport, barriers and enablers to good urban design and transport, and the impact of half price bus fares on lower income communities. A follow on project examined the transport experience of residents living in a contrasting retirement village on the edge of Christchurch. The research was designed to inform ways that transport and housing design can be integrated to encourage active mobility in urban regeneration programmes. The ACTIVATION project ran from 2020 to 2024 and was funded by the Ageing Well and Healthier Lives National Science Challenges. The program was as follows:
1. Project introduction Prof Simon Kingham (Uni of Canterbury)
2. What happened at OCHT: Ed Leeson (OCHT) & Liam Carroll (Lime)
3. What happened at Park Lane: Kate Lambarth (Arvida Park Lane)
4. What we found introduction: Prof Simon Kingham (Uni of Canterbury)
